A jointly funded project between the Queensland Government and the YMCA, Melville Place was the first affordable housing project for the YMCA. This project required considerable liaison between stakeholders including the Gold Coast City Council, who placed stringent conditions on the development.  These restrictions presented many challenges, including acoustic (from traffic), poor storm water infrastructure and a high requirement for car parking.  The challenges provided our team with an opportunity to be creative – delivering 52 one and two bedroom affordable housing units that offer good insulation and orientation, natural ventilation and low maintenance across five distinct buildings in a village atmosphere.
