The Northern Beaches Leisure Centre project featured a 50m pool, 25m pool, hydrotherapy pool, learn-to-swim pool and aquatic recreation area incorporating 300m² of junior pool and 200m² of toddler lagoon play area.  Additional facilities included change rooms, showers, toilets, kiosk, child care facilities, community meeting rooms, indoor sporting facilities and associated filtration plant, parking and landscaping.

The project was the first permanent installation in Australia of the innovative Astral Pool, utilised as a temporary installation during the 2007 FINA world swimming championships in Melbourne.   The Astral Pool design was chosen for its adaptability to suit the centre, and its cost effectiveness for both installation and maintenance.

Funded by the former Thuringowa City Council, Sport & Recreation Queensland and Stockland and with a number of community and sporting groups to be considered, extensive stakeholder engagement and management was required to ensure the multi-purpose facility’s relevance to the growing community, and successful time, cost and quality outcomes were achieved.
