“One of the most exciting projects (Toowoomba Regional Council) has been involved in for quite a while.”

Nick Hauser, General Manager Community Services

The new $24.5 million Toowoomba City Library is a signature project in the city’s masterplan for growth.

Providing a key entry statement to the Toowoomba central city and civic precinct, the new City Library project included a landscaped civic plaza suitable for major outdoor events, and which physically connects the new library to the existing Town Hall and the Regional Art Gallery. Designed to provide a contemporary response to the historic aesthetic of the Toowoomba City Centre, the new 6,800m2 building includes environmentally sustainable design initiatives.

The new City Library offers a children’s area, café, community centre with meeting rooms for training and seminars, the Toowoomba History Library, cycle centre and basement car parking.

Featuring state-of-the-art RFID (radio frequency identification system) circulation and security technology, modern resource management facilities and community features such as free indoor and outdoor wi-fi and device charging stations within the spacious, light filled library and community spaces, the new Toowoomba City Library sets the benchmark for contemporary regional library facilities.

Award-winning

The project was awarded the 2016 Downs & Western Master Builders “Project of the Year” Award.
